Purpose
The Ohio Historical Markers Grants Program was instituted in 2006 to help organizations and communities defray the cost of historical markers.
How to apply
Indicate interest in applying for funding by responding affirmatively to "Check if applying for funding through Ohio Historical Markers Grants Program" on application form
Submit a copy of the completed application and supporting documentation to the Local History Office
There are two application rounds per year with submittal deadlines two weeks prior to Ohio Historical Markers Advisory Panel meetings in April and October.
Awards
Up to 20 marker applications per year can be selected to receive $750 to be used to defray the total cost of a historical marker, which range from $1,900 - $2,150.
Applications featuring topics with state and national significance may take precedence over those with only local significance.
Applications from counties with few historical markers may take precedence over those from counties with many historical markers.
Applicants who do not receive funding may resubmit application for same topic in another round or pay the total cost of the marker.
